- WHO?
YOUR KENSINGTON PROFESSIONAL DOG TRAINER
My name is Lorenzo Barichella, founder of Training Dog® and a professional dog trainer and behaviour specialist with over a decade of experience working with dogs and their owners in London
MEET LORENZO →
I personally provide dog training and behavioural consultations in Kensington W8 and Holland Park W14, working with dogs of all ages on everyday training and behavioural challenges
But puppies are my real passion!
I love raising them and watching them discover the world: seeing their confidence grow, watching them learn how to approach and communicate with other dogs, and helping them develop the skills that will stay with them throughout their lives
PUPPY TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
The first months of a dog’s life are incredibly important. A puppy isn’t simply learning commands; they are learning how to live in our world, how to communicate, how to behave around other dogs and, above all, how to build a relationship with their owner
That’s why my training starts from day one
From the very beginning, my puppies learn to stay with their owner, follow them naturally, pay attention to where they are and come back rather than run away.
Off-lead training begins from day one, because I want staying connected to their owner to become natural behaviour, not something we have to introduce months later
They learn recall, lead walking, appropriate socialisation, confidence, good manners and how to remain calm around everyday distractions. They also learn how to interact with other dogs: how to approach, play, communicate, respect boundaries and simply be around them without every encounter becoming overwhelming
I’m also the author of The Invisible Lead – Why Reliable Recall Starts with Pack Mindset, a book based on the same principle I introduce to puppies from the beginning: real freedom comes from teaching a dog to remain naturally connected to their owner, rather than relying solely on a lead to keep them close
For me, this is one of the most rewarding parts of being a dog trainer. Many behavioural problems that appear later in life have their foundations in those early months, which is why I care so much about giving puppies the best possible start
One of my greatest satisfactions is meeting owners again many years later, when the puppy I once trained is now a senior dog, and seeing them still enjoying such a happy, easy relationship together. Seeing a dog grow through life without many of the behavioural problems that can make everyday life difficult is incredibly rewarding
And perhaps the most meaningful part is the gratitude those owners still show me, even after so many years. Every time it happens, it reminds me why I love working with puppies so much: what we build in those first months can stay with a dog and their family for a lifetime
- Individual approach
Every dog is different, with their own personality, experiences and character. I adapt my approach to the individual dog rather than applying the same training formula to every dog
- Positive method
Positive reinforcement helps dogs learn with confidence and build trust, while clear communication and appropriate boundaries help them understand what is expected of them
DOG TRAINING & BEHAVIOUR
Although puppies are my particular passion and speciality, I work extensively with adolescent and adult dogs too
Every dog is different, so training is always adapted to the individual. I help with recall and off-lead reliability, lead walking, overexcitement, barking, fear and insecurity, resource guarding, reactivity and other behavioural problems
My approach combines positive reinforcement, clear communication, consistency and structure, with a strong emphasis on understanding why a dog behaves in a particular way rather than simply trying to stop the behaviour we can see
Training takes place in real-life environments, at home and outdoors, so that what your dog learns can be applied where it actually matters
RECALL & OFF-LEAD TRAINING
Reliable recall is about much more than teaching a dog to respond to a word. I want a dog to develop the habit of staying aware of their owner even when they have the freedom to explore
That means learning to check in naturally, notice changes of direction, stay connected around distractions and understand that coming back does not always mean the end of freedom or fun
With puppies, I build these habits from the very beginning. With adolescent and adult dogs, we can strengthen or rebuild them where recall has become unreliable, always adapting the training to the individual dog, their environment and the distractions they find most difficult
The aim is not simply to get a dog back when called, but to build the kind of relationship and awareness that makes safe, enjoyable off-lead freedom possible
TRAINING IN KENSINGTON & HOLLAND PARK
Living and training in London presents dogs with a very particular environment. Busy pavements, traffic, cafés, people, children, other dogs, squirrels and the freedom of large parks can all become part of everyday life
That’s why much of my training takes place where you and your dog actually live and walk, including Kensington W8 and Holland Park W14
Rather than teaching skills only in an artificial training environment, I work with dogs and their owners in the situations they encounter every day. This allows us to build behaviour that is practical, reliable and relevant to real life in London
YOUR FIRST CONSULTATION
When I start working with a new dog, the first step is always a consultation.
We will discuss your dog’s history, routine, environment and behaviour, while I observe your dog and their interaction with you. From there, we can identify the priorities and establish the most appropriate training programme
With puppies, I particularly like to look ahead: not simply at the puppy in front of us today, but at the adult dog they are going to become and what we can start doing now to help them get there

Since then, we’ve worked with him on two more occasions: once during the socialisation period and again to address a resource guarding issue with food. Each time, we’ve come away feeling confident and reassured. Lorenzo takes the time to thoroughly assess each situation, offers hands-on guidance during the session, and always follows up with a detailed email outlining the next steps and a summary of everything discussed.
It’s clear that he has a wealth of experience working with all kinds of dogs and behavioural challenges. He has a calm, kind, and gentle approach—yet knows exactly when to be firm. We highly recommend Lorenzo as a dog trainer and behaviourist.

I have a maltese (called Coco) who would always pull when walking on a lead. She would also bark whenever she sees another dog or when she sees people passing by the window. I tried so many things but nothing worked. After just 5 minutes with Lorenzo walking Coco, she's a changed dog! I couldn't believe it.... She was walking nicely with a loose lead and wasn't pulling forward when I was ahead of her or when she saw another dog in front of her.
Lorenzo truly loves dogs and more importantly he understands them. He is able to explain to me why Coco behaves the way she does and what I should be doing instead to change her behaviour. He has truly educated my husband and I on the foundations of being a leader to Coco and creating a successful relationship between Coco and us. He has also provided us with written advice on what we can do when we encounter certain scenarios e.g. excessive barking etc.
I left it a week before leaving my review as I wanted to see how Coco was after one consultation with Lorenzo - she has been walking well on a lead and she is overall much calmer and well behaved.
If you are struggling with any unwanted behaviours (no matter small or big) in your dog, I highly recommend booking a session with Lorenzo - you won't regret it!! I wish I booked one with Lorenzo sooner, I really can't recommend him enough - thank you so much Lorenzo!
He is kind, calm but firm & uses positive reinforcement which obviously works. He’s clearly loved by so many dogs in the park who run up to him to say hello and my dog respected him immediately.
Lorenzo has provided lots of other tips and techniques that make for a very happy dog and has been supportive in helping us implement them. I have nothing but great things to say!

I would definitely recommend him if you are getting a puppy because he can start training on day one so that as the dog gets older there are no behaviour issues. Or if you have an older dog that needs correction I’m sure he is great with that too.
We cannot recommend Lorenzo more, he is excellent! After three weeks our puppy is already better trained than any of our past dogs ever were.
