Welcome to Trainingdog.co.uk !!One of the most important dog training tools around is non either than yourself.
Often people buy dog training tools and they have no idea how to use them properly and as a result, they start having the wrong behavior from the dog, if they are using them improperly. The dog readily associates the disruptive effect of the spray to his behavior, and not the master.
Before you make a decision on which dog training tool to use for your pet, please have your pet evaluated by a professional dog behaviorist and dog obedience trainer. The wrong method or the wrong tool for the wrong dog is a really bad idea!
The sooner you start leash training your puppy, the sooner he will be able to walk with you in a safe, happy environment. However, this isn’t always an easy task. You’ll use the 6′ leash primarily, but you’ll need the longer one for a few specific training exercises. Avoid “training leashes,” head halters (which mount around the dog’s muzzle), and any type of retractable leashes, which put constant tension on a dog’s collar or harness, causing him to pull on the leash in response.
Halter collars, which wrap around the neck and the muzzle, but don’t prevent panting or impair drinking can give extra control. The downside is, since they don’t restrict biting or grasping, half their potential value is gone. The head collar generally consists of two loops. One loop goes behind the ears and the other goes over the dog’s nose and hey meet somewhere below the dog’s jaw. Martingales These are similar to limited slip collars, except they don’t have a buckle. They slide over the dog’s head, and then a piece of plastic tubing (typically) is slid down to the desired tightness.
If a certain tool which you are using at the moment doesn’t seem to get your dog’s full attention or match your physical strength, you might want to try a different one. Why use what doesn’t work?
You should always reward your dog for the “good stuff” and ignore everything else. It is best to alternate the kinds of rewards so your dog will not be expecting the same response from you every time. This will keep him on his toes and have him wondering what fun and interesting treat he is going to get from you when he does something you are pleased with.
Be consistent when you are issuing out commands and trying to teach your dog to develop certain behaviors. For instance, if you are trying to teach your dog not to chew on slippers or shoes, do not praise him one day when you see him chewing on a slipper. Obedience training is training your dog to perform certain acceptable behaviors while teaching them to stop unacceptable behaviors. Obedience training is the ideal way to establish the social hierarchy in your household. You should be able to train your puppy so that it does not exhibit innocently harmful behaviors such as scratching all the time.
